Invisible Ambition

Invisible ambition
Righteously inflamed
Sitting alone
Stifled in the corner.
Hissing contempt at others
For their obvious flaws.

Hidden beneath layers
Of calcified non-expectations
From those that mattered most.
Buried under
Unfettered put-downs
And harsh, self-recriminations.

Invisible ambition
Disguised in compliance
Swallows down a silent roar
Of jealous hopes
That nobody ever hears.
