My Gran

When I didn’t say goodbye
It lingered on in my life
Like a rumbling train
Echoing in the distance.
One I should have caught
But never did.

I remember you in my dreams
When now and again
You come to visit me.

Once again you are here.
We pour a cup of tea
No notion of time
Heart meeting heart.
We talk of things that count
Or really don’t
It doesn’t matter.
We are content
At home again
Just for a fleeting while.

Then you are gone.
I hear that train rolling sadly
Even more loudly.
An echo from a far off place.
