Solitude

Solitude, my oldest friend,
I have sat quietly next to you
For as long as I can remember.

We keep each other company.
We can so easily lean back
Into each other’s familiar ways,
And find peace and comfort.

We need few words to express
The unquestioning acceptance
We have for each other.

Sheltered together quietly,
We are the hushed witnesses
Of all that passes by.
