The Autumn Of My Life

If I reach up, stretched out
Towards my path
With courage and intent,
My burning orange and red leaves
Would flame up
Illuminating the startled skies
In a flash of blistering brightness.

My wild, free soul
Shameless, vibrant, strong,
Holding no fear of who I am
Or what I want to say,
Would finally catch fire
With uninhibited expression
And speak my heart’s truth.
